Most people fly in to India via various international airlines, to Bombay or New Delhi for instance, and then take small regional planes, buses or trains to Agra. Of course, since Agra is a ‘must-see’ on most visitors list, since the Taj Mahal is located there, there are easy travel options.
The Agra airport is 7 km from city center and 3 km from Idgah bus stand. Indian Airlines provide a shuttle flight between Agra, Varanais and Khajuraho. Via plane, it takes forty minutes from Delhi to Agra.
It is also possible to travel to Agra via bus. There is a bus stand called Idgah bus stand where one can get on buses that head to Delhi, Jaipur, Mathura and Fatehpur-Sikri. There is also the Agra Fort Bus stand which has buses to Mathura. Travelers should note that while the bus offers a good way to see the scenery of India, it is near impossible to predict the length of the trip since there can be bad traffic jams or even cows stopped in the middle of the street at any time.
As with all big cities in India, Agra is accessible via train. In Agra, the train station is located in Agra Cantonment station. There are trains that leave daily to Delhi, Varanasi and Rajasthan. There are several different train lines but preferred ones are Shatabdi, Rajdhani or Palace on a Wheel.
