Aside from a slight problem of having to have new automatic key cards made every day, our stay here was the highlight of our holiday. The room provided us with all we needed and more besides - two televisions (bedroom and living area), huge bathroom, mini bar, comfortable sofa, dressing area.
The bed was soooo comfortable we didn't want to get up - hmmm happy days!
The location was great - lots of places to eat and drink on your doorstep but far enough away not to be troubled by any noise.
The local Philly Phlash bus service is a short walk away which was very convenient.
Service from staff was excellant, we'd go back in a phlash and use Sofitel hotels for future holidays.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Sofitel for our 1 year anniversary and were very happy with our stay. Our suite was immaculate and luxurious. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. The room was tastefully decorated, and complemented the modern ambience of the hotel.

“Still a great place to stay”

I returned to this hotel after 2-1/2 years and was pleased to find that it was still a good place. The interiors are stylish and the TVs are now of the large flat screen type. An evening service replaces any soiled towels and arranges the pillows for sleeping. A restaurant off the lobby provides good food for around $40 without drinks/desserts. The location is very convenient to Suburban Station and is near Rittenhouse Square. The area is gentrifying with new apartment buildings going up.

I wish that there was an alternative to the perfumed soap in the bathroom--I find it a bit overpowering. The bathroom (that comes with fresh orchids) has double doors that do not lock--a rather odd feature.

I do not stay overnight in Philadelphia very often, but would certainly choose this hotel again.

“good experience, some issues”

Sofitel Philadelphia

Sep 17, 2008

The hotel is good overall - nice boutique feel, nice front desk and concierge employees, clean rooms, comfy beds, good central location. Note: the actual mattress on the bed is really old though - it's just covered by a super thick down pillow top to make it comfy. I was there for a meeting and some of the staff helping us was not good - although the food was tasty, it would run out quickly and they would not replace beverages and coffee quickly enough. It seemed that some staff needed additional training on hotel logistics and how to confidently work with a group in house. All the sites close pretty early and are guarded all around once they are closed. We found a great sushi place on Chestnut called Morimoto - fun atmosphere, great food & service!

Guided by previous reviews, I was expecting something really special from this hotel.

We booked one of the "Prestige Suites" directly through Sofitel. These rooms are all at the front of the hotel. We were on Floor 8 of 14. Don't expect much of a view.

There is major refurbishing work going on directly opposite the hotel ,so expect noise from 7am onwards (mainly from rubbish being thrown into the back of skips from a great height).
No warning or mention of this inconvenience anywhere on the hotel website.
This work looks like going on for many months yet.

One bedroom suites are large, clean and chilled with a huge bathroom and plenty of wardrobe space, with loads of gadgets like a Bose sound system that I never worked out how to operate.

On the whole, the reception staff seem to feel that they have that air of superiority.

Continential breakfast included in the price was hugely disappointing. This consisted of two croissants and a slice of bread per person with fruit juice and tea/coffee. We were expecting cereal as well as cold meats/cheese like at other hotels, but this was all extra. Be aware that the "a la carte" breakfast during the week could turn out to be very expensive.
