“Magnificent! Looks like a historical monument!”

Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia

Sep 1, 2008

This hotel is probably among the top hotels I've stayed at for business purposes. It is literally steps from Philadelphia's City Hall and right in the middle of the shopping district (be sure to check out Chestnut St. and Walnut St). There were also plenty of great restaurants nearby and within walking distance. Subway access is also on the same block.

The hotel looks like a historical monument from the exterior. It is simply beautiful with huge white columns at the front entrance. Beautiful restaurant and lobby lounge at the entrance. The hotel staff is extremely courteous and helpful. Very nice gym facility as well. The hotel provides Bvlgari toilerties in the bathroom, which is a very nice touch. I would definitely stay at the Ritz again!

My husband and I took the kids to the Ritz for Memorial Day weekend. Everything went wrong. We had rented a suite, thinking it would be easier to sleep with the kids this way. The second room wouldn't open up with our key. (It was propped open when we got there). I called the front desk, very concerned that should the door accidently get closed the children would be trapped in the room. They informed me that they could not (or rather would not!) fix the door because it would mean removing the lock and replacing it with a new one.
The concierge was very helpful but the hotel doesn't serve lunch in either of their restaurants and all room service deliveries were cold.

We stayed at the Ritz for one night after dropping our daughter off with her grandparents, so it was a nice getaway evening.

The hotel is beautiful with a very chic lobby, bar, restaurant combination. The staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. We paid a rate of $295 that included a $50 credit to parking and breakfast. While not inexpensive, compared to other hotels in the area such as The Rittenhouse Hotel, it was definitely the dealmaker. The hotel is within walking distance of many restaurants and shopping also.

The room was very nice although not outstanding and a bit small but it was sparkling clean. Also, we were treated to a beautiful view of (I believe) city hall with William Penn on top. Quite an extraordinary view really.

When we went down for breakfast, I thought it would be a very nice buffet of continental breakfast items. I was wrong! It was full breakfast that you ordered from a menu including cappuccino, omelets, toast, fresh squeezed juices and more.

We would definitely go back!

Overall we had a fairly pleasant stay at this Ritz. The lobby of this hotel is beautiful. The rooms are very nice. As for service, it is so so. The bellman are a little inattentive...sometimes they are too busy talking amongst themselves to help out the guests. The front desk staff was ok. It was our anniversary and it was noted in our reservation, but they never mentioned it or sent any kind of amenity to our room. We stayed on the Club level, which was not up to other Club standards and no where near as good as the one in Amelia Island, Laguna, or Boston. Cheap wine and champagne and no other drinks out at cocktail hour. Usually it is top shelf...but not the case here. Next time I think I would stay at the Four Seasons - it seemed to be in a prettier area too.

I only stayed for one night, my boyfriend was doing a business meeting and his company booked us. I learned they just remodeled the lobby and had a grand opening of their new restaurant (we didn't eat there). Let me just say the hotel was wonderful and the staff even better. The service was the best, greeted with smiles and always helpful. Location was great, right in the middle of great shopping, site seeing etc. We were recommended to got to PEARL by the hotel staff, it was one of our favorite meals, I totally recommend!! We really had a lovely time, wish we were staying longer as it was very relaxing!!! PS- the bed was so comfortable, I couldn't wait to go to sleep!!!
