We stayed at the Ritz for one night after dropping our daughter off with her grandparents, so it was a nice getaway evening.

The hotel is beautiful with a very chic lobby, bar, restaurant combination. The staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. We paid a rate of $295 that included a $50 credit to parking and breakfast. While not inexpensive, compared to other hotels in the area such as The Rittenhouse Hotel, it was definitely the dealmaker. The hotel is within walking distance of many restaurants and shopping also.

The room was very nice although not outstanding and a bit small but it was sparkling clean. Also, we were treated to a beautiful view of (I believe) city hall with William Penn on top. Quite an extraordinary view really.

When we went down for breakfast, I thought it would be a very nice buffet of continental breakfast items. I was wrong! It was full breakfast that you ordered from a menu including cappuccino, omelets, toast, fresh squeezed juices and more.

We would definitely go back!

Overall we had a fairly pleasant stay at this Ritz. The lobby of this hotel is beautiful. The rooms are very nice. As for service, it is so so. The bellman are a little inattentive...sometimes they are too busy talking amongst themselves to help out the guests. The front desk staff was ok. It was our anniversary and it was noted in our reservation, but they never mentioned it or sent any kind of amenity to our room. We stayed on the Club level, which was not up to other Club standards and no where near as good as the one in Amelia Island, Laguna, or Boston. Cheap wine and champagne and no other drinks out at cocktail hour. Usually it is top shelf...but not the case here. Next time I think I would stay at the Four Seasons - it seemed to be in a prettier area too.

I only stayed for one night, my boyfriend was doing a business meeting and his company booked us. I learned they just remodeled the lobby and had a grand opening of their new restaurant (we didn't eat there). Let me just say the hotel was wonderful and the staff even better. The service was the best, greeted with smiles and always helpful. Location was great, right in the middle of great shopping, site seeing etc. We were recommended to got to PEARL by the hotel staff, it was one of our favorite meals, I totally recommend!! We really had a lovely time, wish we were staying longer as it was very relaxing!!! PS- the bed was so comfortable, I couldn't wait to go to sleep!!!

“Where's the Ritz?”

Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia

Stayed at the Ritz twice during last year for a total of 3 nights. The hotel is beautiful outside and the lobby is very grand and ritzy, but when proceeding to your room don't lose count of the carpet stains and worn out walls. Our room, a corner suite with beautiful views, had a musty smell and left-over trash on the first visit and non-functional remote, phone & lamp on the most recent visit.

The place is overall very tired, food below average (but I have also encountered the same problem at Phily's 4 Seasons) and service not worthy of The Ritz and very reminiscent of some all-inclusive resorts where you'll wait a long time and will be served as if a huge favor is being done.

When we had to spend another few nights in Phily we ended up staying at 4 Seasons and won't be returning to Ritz.

I recently stayed at this hotel for one night. I was attending a business meeting that took place at the hotel. The service was superb. Everyone was prompt, helpful, and truly did try to anticipate my needs. The gym (open 24 hours) was small, but had good equipment and, of course, fresh fruit, water, and towels. It is right next to the spa (which was closed when I went to work out), and it took a few minutes to figure out how to access the gym, but I did find it.
The room furnishings were traditional. The bathroom was small, but well-equipped overall. There was a large walk-in shower, Bulgari amenities (Ritz needs to add cotton balls and q-tips to their list, as well as disposable slippers). The bathrobe was plush and comfortable. I liked that there was a safe to store the valuables. Also enjoyed having a tea/coffee maker and supplies in the room. The minibar selections were good as well -- I tried the pretzels and the chocolate and was satisfied. One comment regarding room service: the selections were extremely limited, and became even more limited after 10PM (literally, one soup, two salads, two sandwiches and desserts). I think that's because the hotel wants to encourage its guests to eat in the restaurants, but I was surprised at the limited choices. I ate room service dinner and breakfast and enjoyed the food both times (get the fresh-squeezed orange juice!). The Ritz-catered lunch for the meeting was tasty and fresh as well.
Also note that some of the rooms (including mine) face the street and are very noisy. I had a hard time sleeping and woke up tired. Despite the fact that the room was on the 12th floor, the noise was noticeable and lasted well into the night.
I also did not have any sort of guest handbook/folder telling me about hotel services, etc. That's typically nice to have.
The hotel is undergoing construction, so there was no access to the beautiful rotunda area. I would definitely like to return to the hotel after the construction is completed.
Would recommend overall for the good location and superb service.
