“What a treat!”

The St. Regis Hotel, New York

We stayed at this hotel for five nights using Starwood Points and used it as our base to attend the U.S. Open tennis matches. Service was superb and the room, complete with a large, swiveling, LCD TV concealed in a pop-up box at the end of the bed, was exquisite.
Since we arrived just after lunch, our room was not quite ready. One of the managers walked us into the bar and offered us complimentary drinks while we waited. They came for us about 20 minutes later and escorted us to our room and to meet our floor's butler. She was delightful, offered to unpack our suitcases for us (really, now?!), offered to press any items of clothes for us, and explained how we could page her in the mornings for coffee. Complimentary coffee is brought in the mornings on a silver tray, with china cups, served very hot in a French press. (At night, however, the same request results in a room service charge.) It sure beats making coffee in a dinky pot in the bathroom!
Of all of the hotels we've stayed at in the United States and Europe, this ranks among the best.

“Disappointing”

I recently stayed at the St Regis and for a hotel of it's status wasn't overly impressed.

The good points -
The room was spacious and had a nice bathroom with double sinks and a walk-in shower.

The bad points -
The floor smelt of stale smoke - and this was supposedly a non smoking floor.
The breakfast was disgusting, with service that veered from disinterested to rude.
I asked for eggs well done - they came barely cooked.
I sent it back, and it came back - slightly better but still soft.
Perhaps its an American thing, but ordering a full cooked breakfast, and you have to choose sausage OR bacon?
Room service - an experience!
When ordering items from the menu, we asked for items, lets call them A, B and C.
They confirmed the order verbally as items A, C, F, We said no, we want A, B and C. They said B, C and D?
Again we repeated the order. The read it back. And delivered the wrong things. By this time we were resigned to the St. Regis doing what it wanted, not what the guest wanted.
The food arrived and was intensely salty.
Staff kept calling the second guest my name, and were completely unable to grasp that we were two different people with two different surnames.

For a hotel that charges on average $1000 per night, this is completely awful, and I simply would urge people to carefully consider what they need from a hotel.

No one in the hotel, with the exception of one or two people actually LISTEN to what you are asking, and this seems to be a trait peculiar to New York.

Despite its grandeur, and the obvious efforts of some of the staff to go a bit further, this hotel is by no means as good as it thinks it is.

“adooooored our stay”

The St. Regis Hotel, New York

Sep 6, 2008

Stayed 3 nights with 2 kids 5 and 8. We felt so welcome by the warm staff (butler, concierge, groom, waiter...) we cannot wait to return. We used to stay at the Four Seasons but fell so anonymous last time we wanted a change.
Well, we were right : Everybody greeted us in a very personal way and all seemed to remember our names and our children's. Had a great suite with 2 bathrooms and great views. Well, everything was so perfect, we are dreaming to come back from Paris ! The St Regis definitly lives up to its reputation...

“Just OK”

The St. Regis Hotel, New York

Just returned from a weekend at the St. Regis in NYC. I was not overly impressed by the hotel. The first night we checked in we were given a room on a lower floor - with absolutely no view (except for an exterior wall). We were moved the second night, but our room was only half the size. The butler service was a nice touch, except when we tried to utilize the service, the butler did not respond until 20 minutes later. We did enjoy the bed and linens - they were nice. I was disappointed that some of the other aspects of the hotel were not up to par...such as the very low water pressure, broken hairdryer, smoking-smell on the non-smoking floors...

In summary, this was still a nice hotel in a good location (close to 5th Avenue shopping & Central Park)...but for the price, I would definitely stay somewhere else next time.
