“Not what we expected”

Having traveled and stayed at many resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean, I had high expectations of Papakea Resort. When arriving and checking in we were greeted with a friendly Aloha, given our key and “free breakfast ticket” (you have to listen to a 30 talk on different tours to take). When walking up to L408 we noticed many construction workers and cats. We walked into our condo and saw plastic covering our ceiling and the décor was from the early 90’s. Our “two bedroom two bath” was also disappointing. We had requested one king and one queen. We received one queen bed and two twin beds that were located in a loft area. The only really good thing about our room was the view. Feet from the beach and ocean were definitely worth the 10 hour trip!
Cleaning service was not what you would expect. They will change your sheets and sweep the floor if you write them a note. Otherwise expect only clean towels! That was even hard to come by. We ended up going to Star Market and getting our own cleaning products and taking care of our moldy showers and dusty tables.
The pool area was fun and I would recommended getting their and relaxing before the children arrive! The pool security is really strict on the no floaties or beach balls in the pool. You can get beach towels at the front desk and be very careful with them. We placed them on the lanai one night, had high winds, and one flew off. The unethical grounds crew picked it up and did not turn it in. Needless to say we were charged 25 dollars. The grills had some kind of governor on them which would only allow them to get to 300 degrees. So plan on having dinner be cooking for a long time. Trust me we tried to turn them up and we found that the two end grills were the best.
Having traveled many places and having and high expectations made me realize that Papakea was not a 5 star resort. My recommendation would be to ask to a fully remodeled condo, be prepared to clean, and buy a beach towel at the ABC store. Any questions or to see pictures feel free to contact me.

For a family of 4, the units are cramped. With only one bathroom to use, there were some challenges. The staff was accommodating, however not overly informative. Extra charges for golf clubs to use on the putting green and for the safe key was dissappointing. Nickle and diming an already pricy getaway was sad. The unit we stayed in had a half tub and rotting wood around the floor as well as water stains in the ceiling area. While the location was great and the views were really nice, we would only stay there again if we are provided pictures of our room and guaranteed that room once we reviewed the pictures. Understanding that some units have been renovated more recently, it would be suggested that all units maintain a certain level of amenities and are renovated on a periodic basis.

Rented a condo here for a week for my honeymoon. Was completely disappointed when we saw our room. Dirty and rusty with bugs flying all around. The second night was very unpleasant as there was a bunch of drunk teenagers having a party right above us...before we knew it the party moved outside-which then escalated into a drunken brawl on the stairs. Hotel security and cops made an appearance...a very long and disruptive night. The fourth day my husband and I took a snorkel tour, prior to leaving we had placed the "privacy" card on our door. We do not like people in our room when we are not present. When we returned to the condo there were two housekeepers in our room! I immediately called and spoke to the housekeeping manager who mentioned that the Papakea's policy is that a housekeeper MUST enter each room every 48 hours. However, that is NOT written in any of their paperwork, nor was it ever brought to our attention upon check-in. IT IS ILLEGAL TO ENTER A ROOM THAT HAS REQUESTED PRIVACY!!! I WILL NEVER BOOK A ROOM HERE AGAIN!!! THINK TWICE BEFORE MAKING RESERVATIONS HERE!!!! THERE ARE PLENTY OF NICER PLACES TO STAY IN THIS AREA, THIS NOT BEING ONE OF THEM. GUESTS ALSO HAVE TO PAY TO USE THE SAFE, WHAT A JOKE!!!

ResortQuest at Papakea Resort is total worth it!!...I had booked an ocean view room from Cheaptickets. Before going to Maui, i had called up the hotel and mentioned to them that i am travelling with a kid and would like a good and clean room.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the room when i entered. It was just perfect. I stayed in G208, The only the thing between the lanai and ocean was some grass. This room has a perfect clear view of the ocean.

The room was clean and had all the facilities needed, including washer dryer and cooking utensils.

Whenever we were in the room, we spent majority of the time in the lanai...Having a good lanai is the most important as relaxing in the lanai was the best thing to do and gazing at the ocean.

The employees at this hotel were very understanding and courteous.

Housekeeping was great and punctual....

“Enjoyed Our Stay”

ResortQuest at Papakea Resort

Apr 30, 2008

Myself and wife stayed for 10 days and had absolutely no complaints about Papakea. The staff were friendly, the unit clean and room service every day. There was not much beach directly at rear of the grounds for swimming etc.but it is only a few minutes walk to nice beach. The grounds were beautiful parklike, and very peaceful and serene. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay there again.
