Stayed at this property for 2 nights and used hilton hhonors points. I checked in at around 1pm and was told the only room available was one with two twin beds, right next to the elevator with a view of the lovely parking lot. My profile clearly states I prefer a King bed away from the elevator. I was so tired at the time I decided to just accept the room because the clerk was unsure as to when another room would become available. When I entered the room I noticed wall paper peeling off the walls, somewhat dirty carpet and just an overall dingy feel. I was so glad that I wasn't actually paying for this crap. I decided to check out the executive lounge and on my way up I met two guests who had checked in a few hours before. They were not hilton hhonors members and they booked their room on priceline. Surprisingly they were given a junior suite facing the canal. I complained to the front desk and was given a multitude of ludicrious excuses as to why I wasn't upgraded. I suspect the gentleman who checked me in had lied about which rooms were available. At this property as a Diamond member I was offered the worst available room instead of the best available room.
On to the good part. The executive lounge was truly excellent. The breakfast consisted of eggs, meats, cereals, fruits, nuts and pastries. There were always drinks and snacks available all day. At night they served sushi, egg rolls, and french pastries. The staff was very attentive, always asking if I needed anything. All and all it made up for the crappy room.
One other bad part to the hotel is the location. It's very far from the city centre and even farther from the central station. Besides the restaurant in the hotel there are no places to eat in the area. There are numerous trams about a block from the hotel but if you plan on walking to the sites, it's quite a hike.
On to the fitness facility. It was absolutely great for a hotel gym. Although the moment i walked into the facility I was asked to remove my shoes. They do not permit outside shoes in the fitness area. What's especially perplexing about this is that the staff is so concerned about dirt on the floor but in the area around the equipment there was no anti-bacterial spray . In other words they don't care if someone sweats all over the equipment but they are terrified if by chance a speck of dirt is found on one of the treadmills or on the floor.
Next time I return to Amsterdam for a day or two I'll just stay at the airport hilton property.
