We booked 2 spacious twin rooms on the second floor overlooking the nice terrace of the hotel where breakfast is served, and Piazzale Demidoff beyond. The view from our rooms was charming.
What we liked:-
Warm welcome at the reception.
Helpful and well-infomed staff, who assisted us with booking our visit to the Uffizi Art Gallery, and who advised us on a few nice and unusual things to see off the beaten track around Florence.
Breakfast on the terrace, well laid, and decorated with flowering plants.
Clean rooms, and decently furnished. All appliances and the air-conditioner worked properly.
Free internet at reception area.
Although the front door entrance shares a courtyard with some other establishment we still liked it. It is all well kept and tidy. The building is old and gives that pecular Italian style palazzo feeling. It has a history of its own. Piazzale Demidoff is also nice - in fact the film "Tea with Mussolini" was also shot in this small square.
As for the position of the hotel in Florence, it is slighly off the historic centre, close to Ponte Vecchio. Anyway, distances are relatively small, and for the knowledgeable tourist it should not pose a problem because in fact the hotel lies in the middle of an interesing area surrounded by Piazzale Michelangelo, San Miniato al Monte, Palazzo Pitti (Gallery and Museum), and Boboli Gardens. The proximity of the River Arno is relaxing too. We would prefer this hotel from one close to the Duomo, which we did not miss to visit and climb.
In 2008 my family stayed here, but it was no coincidence, because I had first come to Florence in 1977 and stayed in this same hotel when it was still a pensione. At that time I was a teenager!
Close to the hotel there is a convenient mini-market, some good restaurants, a small church, a small electro-store (where we could buy an extra pendrive for the laptop).
