I stayed in the Carlton Dublin Airport Hotel two weeks ago as I had an overnight wait between two flights. My first experience of the hotel was very poor as we had to wait over twenty minutes for the hotel shuttle bus and when it arrived, there was not enough space for the guests... no problem - pile in! There were not enough seats for the people there but the driver did nothing about it so people were forced to sit on peoples laps. Unfortunately this happened again the following morning at 6 am (as there were people who were not staying at the hotel getting on the bus). Once again, I had to share a seat on the bus which is HIGHLY ILLEGAL in Ireland and very dangerous.

I had booked a superior room for the extra space - it says on the website that it is an extra spacious room with space for an extra bed if required. Unfortunately the extra bed is there anyway... therefore taking away any extra space the superior room provides. On top of that, the room felt a little grubby and did not feel in any way luxurious. The bathroom is small and was a little disappointing for an executive room. Also there is no air-conditioning. There was a balcony which looked over a horrible view of the carpark at the front of the hotel and a car rental yard. The balcony was mentioned as a feature of the superior room - it was there but you wouldn't want to sit out on it.

I also ate in their 'Clouds' restaurant. Very nice service from a lovely waitress... waiter not so good. Food very ordinary and atmosphere absolutely awful. Not worth it.

I would not stay in the Carlton again... just because it's an airport hotel does not mean they do not have to make an effort with their superior rooms to make them feel superior or special.

Lazy approach in my opinion. Will be looking for other airport hotels.

Booked this hotel through Travelsupermarket.com for €99 (twin room) as my colleague and I had an early flight to Dusseldorf the next morning.

Positives:
Room - clean, good size, beds comfortable and the bathroom was fine, although the shower curtain is too short to hang over the bath so there is some over spraying.
We had to eat in the hotel restaurant/bar on the ground floor, as after flying up from Cork that evening the last thing we wanted to do was go out. I expected high prices and I wasn't disappointed! Quality of food was reasonable though. The bar is obviously used by locals as there was some very interesting cliental arriving during the evening……
Shuttle bus from airport ok, although had to wait a while for it. On way back to airport it was fine.

Negatives:
Even though the hotel is fairly new the corridors smell very stale and of cigarettes, even though we were on a no smoking floor. Majority of staff are non nationals and are very miserable/stern.
To sum up it is what it is; an airport hotel and it’s fine. I would use it again.

Stayed here as we had a 5am start the next day - what a good choice. We got a package which included 8 nights car parking in the hotels secure car park and they have a little free bus which takes you to the front door of the terminal - approx 3 mins away which leaves every half hour from the front door of the hotel so very handy. The hotel is very modern and we had a gorgeous triple room with balcony - tea/coffee/ robes/slippers/hairdryer/free bottles of water - this was a superior room so euro 30 extra which we needed to get the larger room as we had 3 in our party. The staff were very helpful- we had to ring down for extra milk for tea/coffee and they brought up a large jug of milk within 5 mins. We also ate dinner in the bar/restaurant on the ground floor which was fantastic and not too expensive. I would recommend you stay in this hotel if you need to overnight in Dublin airport as its modern, clean, comfortable and very close to the terminal.

We stayed in the Carlton one night at the end of a 10-day stay in Ireland, as we had to fly home early the next morning. Although the overall experience was good, a number of little negative details made our stay not as enjoyable as a 4-star should be.

Starting with the positive points, the hotel is modern, the rooms are large enough, comfortable, modern and clean, and the staff is reasonably friendly.

We booked our night through Octopustravel and had a cheap deal (103 Euros for the room including breakfast). It seems the hotel got aware of this, as we were given a lower-category "syndicate" room, on the ground floor, at the end of a somewhat dismal corridor. The room had a view on the parking lot (instead of the advertised view on the airport runways) and, since on the ground floor, this also means that every car passing by had a view into our room. In practice, this meant we had to close the curtains the whole time in order to keep a minimum privacy. Although I guess being given a "cheaper" room could be considered as a part of the deal when you book through an external website, I still find this quite "unelegant" from the hotel reception, as the hotel certainly was not full at the time.

The windows are sound-proof as the hotel is located very close to the runways, however the walls and doors inside the hotels certainly aren't, as we could clearly hear the conversations from the next room.

Wireless broadband is free, but if you did not bring your own laptop and still need the internet, you can choose between using the interactive TV in your room at the ridiculous price of 10 Euros per day (even if you only surf 3 minutes) or use the pay-as-you-go computer in the lobby at the even-more-ridiculous price of 1 Euro per 6 minutes.

The shower wall/curtain system looks nice, but fails to meet its purpose, i.e. to prevent water from splashing around the bathroom when you take a shower and, finally, the iron in our room did not work at all.

In summary, a comfortable stay, but the addition of negative details tends to spoil the day. Still room for improvement.

I've stayed here a number of times, primarily on business trips and can wholeheartedly recommend the Carlton above any of the hotels in the Dublin Airport area. I've summarised my thoughts below..

What's good
- modern hotel, secure carparking
- good size rooms, well decorated, very clean
- reception staff very friendly and helpful
- reasonable room rates
- handy for airport (and free shuttle bus)
- free broadband access
- smoking rooms available

What's not so good
- the food is expensive, small portions, poor room service menu (however, the quality is good)
- breakfast generally costs extra, its way too expensive and not great
- centrally controlled air conditioning, on a cold night, the rooms can feel very very cold !
- whilst close to the airport, it is quiet a distance to local amenities & shops
