I stayed in the Carlton Dublin Airport Hotel two weeks ago as I had an overnight wait between two flights. My first experience of the hotel was very poor as we had to wait over twenty minutes for the hotel shuttle bus and when it arrived, there was not enough space for the guests... no problem - pile in! There were not enough seats for the people there but the driver did nothing about it so people were forced to sit on peoples laps. Unfortunately this happened again the following morning at 6 am (as there were people who were not staying at the hotel getting on the bus). Once again, I had to share a seat on the bus which is HIGHLY ILLEGAL in Ireland and very dangerous.
I had booked a superior room for the extra space - it says on the website that it is an extra spacious room with space for an extra bed if required. Unfortunately the extra bed is there anyway... therefore taking away any extra space the superior room provides. On top of that, the room felt a little grubby and did not feel in any way luxurious. The bathroom is small and was a little disappointing for an executive room. Also there is no air-conditioning. There was a balcony which looked over a horrible view of the carpark at the front of the hotel and a car rental yard. The balcony was mentioned as a feature of the superior room - it was there but you wouldn't want to sit out on it.
I also ate in their 'Clouds' restaurant. Very nice service from a lovely waitress... waiter not so good. Food very ordinary and atmosphere absolutely awful. Not worth it.
I would not stay in the Carlton again... just because it's an airport hotel does not mean they do not have to make an effort with their superior rooms to make them feel superior or special.
Lazy approach in my opinion. Will be looking for other airport hotels.
