We absolutely loved the Arran House Hotel! We (mom, dad and two girls ages 7 and 10) stayed for four nights in early August. The neighborhood is safe, close to Goodge Street tube stop, lots of restaurants nearby. We also enjoyed going to the grocery store just around the corner from the tubestop; it was open until midnight each day and had an ATM. The hotel was very clean, beds were the best of any hotel I've stayed in. We stayed on the second floor (room 21) in a quad with bathroom. The kids each had their own bed which was better than sharing a sleeper sofa elsewhere. We especially enjoyed the two fans (one ceiling and one tabletop) as it was warm the week we were in London. The staff was very helpful. We bought waterbottles daily at the reception (60p and cold!) and picked out (free) dvd's for the kids to watch in the evening. (Don't bring your own from the US; they won't work in Europe.) We usually stayed out all day and came back after an early dinner. (The nearby British Museum has a great restaurant that's open Thursday nights.) It was so nice to just relax with a movie and put our feet up. The bathroom was very tiny, as most reviewers state. Only the kids could really shower in it; the adults just used the showers in the hallways. We just wanted a toilet and sink in the room. Never a wait, for the hallway bathrooms, even in busy August. The hotel's room rate is very reasonable for London; the only inconveniences are the small in-room bathrooms and the lack of an elevator but you save hundreds of $$$ each day by foregoing those conveniences! Similar hotels with larger bathrooms and elevators go for more than double and sometimes triple the rate! The breakfasts were fantastic! Lots of food and always replenished immediately. The breakfast area is small but it was fun meeting fellow travelers and sharing tables. Everyone was very friendly, guests and staff.

“Great value for money”

Arran House Hotel

Aug 18, 2008

We stayed at Arran for 2 weeks in July.We made the booking direcly with the hotel and everything was excactly as agreed. We were given a room ground level too convinient with three tired kids. The room was spacius for london standards with a very tiny bathroom very comfortable beds and with very well soundproof windows. We found our room spotless and room service kept it that clean every day.
The breakfast was delicious and the ladies in the kitchen always smiling fill the buffet immediatelly.
Kitchen was free f to prepare meals but although the staff leave it spotless it looked rather dirty sometimes as some guests did not cleaned their mess.
Extra helpull all people in the receiption.
Kids engjoyed making bubbles in the garden and for me was a paradise as it is was the only place in London i could smoke.
Location was excellent everething too close.
Highly reccomended for mediterraneans and americans not used to the english formality We could speak loudly (normall)without being disapproved !!!!!
Arran hotel worth every penny we paid very great value for money
I will defenatelly came back

Hello! We recently returned from our Europe trip and wanted to let people know that the Arran House Hotel is a great place to stay. Rooms were clean, breakfast was great and the Goodge st. underground station is only 2 blocks away so really handy to get around London. Very reasonable rate for London too. Don't expect huge rooms in London but our room was a decent size. Make sure that you eat at Zizzi's Italian restaurant which is about 4 blocks away. Amazing food at a reasonable price. It was very comparable to the food we had in Italy which is saying a lot. Overall Aaran House a great place to stay and I would reccommend it to anyone.

Ask them to guarantee which rooom you will be placed in when you make your reservation!

After reading all of the positive comments regarding the Arran House I was surprised and disappointed with my stay there. I had contacted the hotel directly via phone to reserve a room for 3 nights and we discussed the best available room for our stay. My group consisted of my 2 sons (6 & 9), my mother and myself. When making the reservation I was told that the best available room for our group was a quad on an upper floor with bathroom right outside the door. Sounded good to me. When we arrived, tired from our trip from the US, we were told that our room was in the basement of the adjacent building. I mentioned my phone conversation and was told that there are no room guarantees. We were not shown to the room, or briefed on the bathroom or room amenities. Anyway, we ended up w/a triple room w/cot (not a quad) in the basement across from the kitchen w/a bathroom down the hall that the staff uses. We had a dim view of storage boxes out of our window, cleaning supplies in the hall, a constant wait for the bathroom and kitchen noise from 6 in the morning until 11 pm at night. Not the best situation. I was told that we could move upstairs the next day, but with 4 people and especially kids, it's a pain and takes time to pack everything back up again. The carbon monoxide detector battery died so it went off for a while. At first they just pulled the batteries out, but I was uncomfortable staying in the room w/o a working detector so they came back and replaced the batteries.

Some positives: the kitchen staff was great (we got to know them due to our proximity and the fact that the best way for us to get to the breakfast room was to go through the kitchen). The food was ok (offering real butter would be nice, if not expected) and nicely presented. The dining room was cozy and comfortable and the garden was attractive. Access to a computer was very helpful. The location was convenient. The desk staff was unremarkable. The kids thought of it as an adventure, and enjoyed it. My mom and I were not as happy. Overall our stay in the basement in a very "cozy" room was not what one would expect from one of Trip Advisors Top 10 B&B's in London.

We booked this place on the basis of other reviews and were not disappointed. We had a large group and got three rooms - two quads and one triple. As others have noted, the bathrooms are tiny, but it's hard to beat this place for price, location and general quality in central London. Extremely well placed for shopping on Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street. Easy Tube access from Euston Square (Circle Line) or Goodge Street (Northern Line). Really close to the British Museum, right in the heart of leafy Bloomsbury, which is generally a quiet, peaceful part of London with nice little parks dotted around. The breakfasts were extremely popular with our group!
