We absolutely loved the Arran House Hotel! We (mom, dad and two girls ages 7 and 10) stayed for four nights in early August. The neighborhood is safe, close to Goodge Street tube stop, lots of restaurants nearby. We also enjoyed going to the grocery store just around the corner from the tubestop; it was open until midnight each day and had an ATM. The hotel was very clean, beds were the best of any hotel I've stayed in. We stayed on the second floor (room 21) in a quad with bathroom. The kids each had their own bed which was better than sharing a sleeper sofa elsewhere. We especially enjoyed the two fans (one ceiling and one tabletop) as it was warm the week we were in London. The staff was very helpful. We bought waterbottles daily at the reception (60p and cold!) and picked out (free) dvd's for the kids to watch in the evening. (Don't bring your own from the US; they won't work in Europe.) We usually stayed out all day and came back after an early dinner. (The nearby British Museum has a great restaurant that's open Thursday nights.) It was so nice to just relax with a movie and put our feet up. The bathroom was very tiny, as most reviewers state. Only the kids could really shower in it; the adults just used the showers in the hallways. We just wanted a toilet and sink in the room. Never a wait, for the hallway bathrooms, even in busy August. The hotel's room rate is very reasonable for London; the only inconveniences are the small in-room bathrooms and the lack of an elevator but you save hundreds of $$$ each day by foregoing those conveniences! Similar hotels with larger bathrooms and elevators go for more than double and sometimes triple the rate! The breakfasts were fantastic! Lots of food and always replenished immediately. The breakfast area is small but it was fun meeting fellow travelers and sharing tables. Everyone was very friendly, guests and staff.
