My wife and I spent a few days over Easter at La Quinta Don Jose to escape the rainy & cold weather in Seattle. It was our first visit to Guadalajara and we were very happy to have booked this place in Tlaquepaque (approx. 5-7 miles from downtown Guadalajara) rather than something in the city itself. Tlaquepaque is a very beautiful city with a gorgeous colonial town square (lot's of good places to eat, shop, drink, or just hang).

The hotel is just one block from the main pedestrian zone. It does not look much from the outside on this typical Mexican side street but wait until you enter: beautiful decoration, quiet, clean, and super friendly. The staff is always helpful (if not necessarily the most knowledgeable); our room was large, clean, and very comfortable. The bar area is very nice and the pool area invites one to take a break and relax. The Quinta Don Jose is truly an amazing Oasis!

My boyfriend Carlos and I stayed at QDJ in the second half of our Spring Break from Law School trip in Mexico. I was tempted to give 4 stars instead of 5 because we had just come from the most amazing B&B - Los Dos in Jocotepec where there were only 4 rooms and the views were spectacular. QDJ was only slightly less intimate but the property was gorgeous and employees were SOOOO amazing that I decided to give the 5.

QDJ employees and staff added to the perfect manicured gardens and greenery, pool, bar, and restaurant. Amenities included bottled water in the room, internet service, and use of a desk phone to call home (the US). All employees were amazingly friendly -- we got to know two of the waiters very well.

Tlaquepaque is a great shopping town. We found some great deals and had a lot of fun!

We returned a few weeks ago from a wonderful visit to Mexico and had the privilege of staying at the Quinta Don Jose'. Having our own B&B in Dundee Oregon our expectations were high and our level of critique would be high and what we found was a completely delightful property. Estella and Arturo our hosts and their staff were warm and welcoming and their attention to detail was phenomenal. We felt nurtured and safe with all the amenities one could possibly want. From the intimate breakfast s to a great happy hour, pool and gardens to the most delightful hammock to read a book in.
The location also could not have been any more convenient than one block off the main promenade in Tlaquepaque and the art world.. Restaurants close, reasonable and exceptional.

Ask if we would return-Yes we would and intend to later this year.

I stayed at QDJ a second time and brought friends along. We had a wonderful time and absolutely loved it! The service is the best--all the staff members are so friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt like part of a caring family. The owners, Arturo and Estela, are charming and interesting people. The rooms that we had (5 & 7) were very clean and comfortable with gorgeous tilework around the sinks/tubs. Lovely gardens and pool, delicious food at the restaurant, yummy drinks made by talented Charlie at the bar, super nice drivers (Juan Jose and Don Jose), and pretty crafts in town are just a few of the additional reasons why my friends and I are looking forward to a return visit. We started missing QDJ the moment we left!
