I can't say enough about how much fun we had on this trip. It was a last minute decision, and the person I was traveling with was very apprehensive about the whole thing - bugs, safety, equipment, physical difficulty, management reliability, language barrier, bus ride... every one of those fears was subsided pretty much immediately. We had such a blast. This particular course has a large number of zip lines, many going over the water, with the biggest being about 550 feet high and a quarter mile long. The course probably takes about an hour to complete. The staff is hilarious and you can tell that they love their job, which made it that much more fun. We checked into a number of different companies before booking, and like another reviewer said, we are glad we went with Canopy Los Veranos because I can't imagine that it is possible for another to be any better. For those traveling from the US, it may make you feel a little bit better (it did for us) to know that the company is American-owned, or at least this is what the activities person at the hotel told us.
This is a fun adventure for people of all ages - I think what surprised me the most was the diversity of the group we were with, including a few senior citizens, who were able to actively participate without problems. Don't get me wrong, there is a physical aspect, particularly hiking up stairs in the woods with equipment to get to the first few platforms. However, it is definitely doable.
A few people mentioned the bus ride - we thought it was fine. From downtown, the ride is under an hour and did not seem too rough to me. However, we waited at the base a looooong time for our bus to leave - if you are not planning on swimming or having lunch at the site, I would recommend going straight to the area where the buses pick up and try to get a spot with an earlier group. If you do have time to kill waiting for the bus, go check out the animal exhibit - although it creeped me out a bit at first, it was actually very cool and I'm glad I did it. They let you go into the monkey cage with a little bit of food and the little guys will come right up and jump onto your arm. They're SO adorable and harmless!
HINT: On the very first zip line, they take a picture of you which can be purchased at the end for $10. This is reasonable, but you can safely and easily take your camera with you on the course (either a neck strap or shorts with pockets are fine - the leg harness will help keep it in your pocket) and take pictures along the way. My friend and I did this and after taking tons of great shots from the platform of each other on the zip line, decided we did not need to purchase the photo. There is also a staff member with a video camera and you can purchase a DVD at the end for $40.
