“Lacking cleanliness”

We just returned from a trip to Old San Juan where we stayed at this hotel. The room was comfortable; however, the maids do not clean the room. We stayed for four night and on three occasions we had to call housekeeping to have them go over the room that was supposedly cleaned while we were out. On one occasion my husband and I sat in the corridor and watch a maid go into our room by taking a fresh set of towels from the car standing in the corridor and he went into the room. He spent 15 minutes and he came out and went into another room. He did not have any disinfectant,, glass cleaner, clean classes in his hands. We went in after he left the room. I found that he had just taken the soiled towels and wiped down the face basin and the class shelf above it. He had not touched the tub which was dirty I do not know how he cleaned the cups and glasses in the room.

I went to housekeeping and called the “supervisor” she came and examined the room then she sent him to get the disinfecting solution to clean the tub and then asked me if it was better. Having to complain about the cleanliness of the room three times made me not appreciate the uniqueness of the hotel and it ruined my stay. Also, do not eat at the hotel because the cost is outrageous, even higher than Hawaii. Breakfast for two, with two eggs and toast, three pieces of fruits is $30.00 and up. Here is another example, two tasteless appetizers in the hotel café with two fruit cocktails, $60.00.

“Disappointed”

El Convento Hotel

Aug 15, 2008

I had my heart set into this hotel for a very long time. I have to say that the staff is very friendly and the hotel is charming but it had too many problems that made our stay in there very umpleasant. First, the hotel is being remodeled and we were placed in the same floor where the remodeling is taking place. We booked 2 rooms and in the middle of our rooms they had a storage area where they were moving furniture among other things even late at night because of the renovation process. El Picoteo restaurant plays loud (very loud) music certain days of the week. To make it worse one of our rooms is located directly on top of the restaurant music area. We were not warned at all. The music was so loud that some bottles we had on top of the bathroom vanity fell on the floor and going to the bathroom that night was an extremely unpleasant experience. The music was very loud even after 2 AM. The rooms were very dusty in certain areas. They did clean but the coffee pot on top of our refrigerator had dust that was there at least for a couple of weeks.

We also had mosquitoes on our rooms. My children had about 6-10 mosquito bites all over their bodies. There is even a can of mosquito spray in the room so I assume they already know about the problem.

The rooms are really pretty but like I said our rooms were not remodeled yet and they are really very outdated.

The location is wonderfull and most od the staff is really very nice. Some of them go out and beyond to try to help. But for us is not a place that we will go back again. Yes I did love the experience of being able to stay there and walk Old San Juan at any time, but when I stay in a hotel I do not expect to be awake past 2 AM because the walls in the room are vibrating because of excessive noise. If they are going to have a tenant who is so disrespectful to the guest of the hotel they should probably consider closing those rooms or letting the tenant of the restaurant go.

I will stay someplace else next time.

“Fabulous Stay”

El Convento Hotel

We stayed at El Convento for two nights last week and were certainly not disappointed. It is very romantic, beautiful and steeped in history. The rooms are a little small, but more than comfortable. Rooms include a sound proof door to keep out the noise at night from the many events and special occasions held at the hotel. The concierge arranged a fabulous in room massage for me and my husband. The Tapas restaurant in the hotel is excellent as well. It featured live music both Friday and Saturday night. There is a cozy library where you can read or check email, plus many different verandas or patios with georgous views of the city to sit and relax comfortably out of doors. El Convento is located right in the middle of Old San Juan so it is an easy walk to all the shops, restaurants, and attractions. If you want beach access, they have a sister property in Condado where you can go and enjoy the water. We highly reccomend staying here.

“Old World Charm in the heart of Old San Juan”

El Convento Hotel

Aug 10, 2008

Hotel El Convento is a charming boutique hotel in the heart of Old San Juan, one of the most enchanting cities I've had the opportunity to visit. In the heart of the best of San Juan's best dining, shopping, and siteseeing district, it makes up for the lack of beach access by giving you passes to one of its several sister properties with oceanfront beach access. The hotel employees were extremely helpful in arranging activities, booking services and providing area recommendations and directions, and the hotel is everything one could hope for in the city - beautiful views, gorgeous decor, a beautiful courtyard and a few charming resident cats to greet you at the elevator every night. The nightly wine and cheese reception is an added bonus. Overall - one of our favorite hotels we've ever stayed at. Very highly recommended. If you're considering a visit to San Juan, I'd recommend you stay nowhere else... in talking to the many people we met during our trip, El Convento is everything (location, charm, ambience) that all of the big resorts lack.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The location is fabulous - no other hotel in San Juan has the proximity to the fantastic restaurants and great location of El Convento. The rooftop pool, resident cats and nightly food and wine receptions were unforgettable.
    • Disliked — Our room was small for the price, but the decor and views were enchanting.

“Great HOtel”

El Convento Hotel

Aug 4, 2008

The staff was great!!!! Ms. Cristine was always there to help you out she is very knowledgeable. Also, Jaime was always there with a smile on his face giving out directions for diferent locations. Shanon and Melody were very helpfull as well. By far this hotel experience has been the best yet!!! I recomend this hotel to everyone!!! The facilities are clean, the staff is friendly, and the hotel is at a great location in Old San Juan, where you are walking distance from two different historical sites.
