Having stayed in All Inclusives before but never at Grand Lido, I expected similar services. My husband & I stayed 6 nights at Grand Lido Braco in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. While the trip from Montego Bay Airport to the resort was fine and the actual check in procedure went smoothly, I was disappointed from that point on. In an all-inclusive, I truly expect a little bit of the exceptional. Grand Lido did not provide this. The grounds were well kept and rooms were clean and fresh. However, the services such as dining rooms, beaches, etc. were not up to my expectations. A warning was in the room to not leave room service trays outside the door because of feral cats. This was apparently a very good warning as the nights were filled with their howling -- all over the resort. You would have tought, with that many cats around, no rodent problems but I saw a LOT of rodent droppings on the patio each morning, all over the deck chairs and tables. The resort had backhoes on the beach at 5 a.m., dredging sand and pulling it back onto the beach. Our room, unfortunately, was directly in front of the area the backhoe dredged -- a lot of noise at 5 a.m. When I inquired if they could do this at a more reasonable hour, I was told that was when they had to do this. This dredging not only produced noise from the machinery but also from the 8-10 men outside arguing about the best way to do this. The dining areas were not as lavish as I have experienced at Sandals nor at RIU resorts and I was disappointed in this. The overall appearance and cleanliness of the resort was fine, with the rodent problem exception.
One other issue is we had a medical emergency while there. I called the front desk for a doctor and an hour later, the in-house nurse appeared. This person was at least 80 and was unwilling to do anything except ask what the problem was. I persisted and we were able to have a doctor called. The doctor took yet another hour to appear and charged me $200 and did absolutely nothing. I know we're dealing with a third-world country but the resort should have a little better access to help in this event. We were in a situation, with my husband's health, to need to cut the trip short and come back to the states. The hotel was totally uncooperative in assisting me with an English-speaking representative for the airline -- they constantly connected me to Spanish-only numbers (never understood that as we were in Jamaica, not Mexico!). I finally got through to family at home and they arranged the return from that end. It seemed the hotel was amenable and friendly as long as nothing out of the ordinary occurs. This should be addressed by the management and should be considered by travelers.
