WOW.We had never been to Negril and we wanted something different instead of staying on the beach at many other vacations we had taken. We stayed in Banana Shout Resort. It was perfect! Very clean and everyone from the gate attendant to the groundskeeper were super friendly and helpful!
The property is situated right on the cliffs, being on the cliffs is great because you are not surrounded by other people like you are at the beach. We even saw Dolphins swimming and cruising in and out of the water a few times!
Diving off the cliffs was so exciting, we saw lots of colourful fish...
Oh! The west end of Negril dies at night and it's very peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed sitting by ourselves on the cliff and reconnecting. Couldn't have done that any better than at Banana.
You must experience this lovely place for yourselves. It is truly magical.
...........it's Jamaica mon!

We were a group of four women from Sydney, Australia looking for a relaxing break after a whirlwind trip to New York. Banana Shout is in a beautiful location, the Red Rooster house had ample room for us but very basic kitchenette - not really suitable for cooking more than a cup of coffee & some toast...and we weren't sure where to go get some food on our first day (after arriving fairly late at night, pretty hungry!). The view from the deckchairs is amazing but the reggae music pumped out all day does tend to become annoying after several hours and repeated plays of the same tracks. Noise from Rick's was minimal in comparison to BS's DJ & the noise from the road outside. Host Milo seems to be different things to different people - to us he was mostly indifferent, however we heard on several mornings what a wonderful meal he'd provided to other guests staying at BS...maybe he just didn't want to eat with us??? The other staff were wonderful - friendly & kind. And the location is AMAZING. Just be sure you are ok with the whiff of Jamaica's famous natural resources - i don't think this is the place to take your kids.

My Husband and I only had one week for vacation, and we hit the jack pot at Banana Shout on the west side of Negril. We were in one of the 4 cottages they rent out, over-looking the cliffs with a horizon of nothing but sea and sky....truly beautiful. But it was the warmth of the staff that really set this week on course for us. Milo our host was excellent, as was Robert the night security man, and Plug the gardener, and Delores the house keeper, and they even have a carver/artist working on-site to make the grounds even more beautiful than they already are. We're excited about going back again next year.

If you're looking for a laid back, safe, secure and affordable get away, check this place out. You can make your own meals in the kitchens within the cottages, or there are plenty of good and affordable restaurants just a short jaunt down the road. But you will unwind here - that's for sure!

First off I have to say that my husband and I have been to Negril many times and always stay at the same place on the beach. We're beach people but wanted to try something different this time and we always loved visiting the cliffs.

So we booked Banana Shout for 4 nights and ended up staying in the Red Rooster cabin for 2 nights in April. (More about why we left early later). I don't want this to be a negative review, because there are many things I absolutely loved about this place. But there were a few things that we weren't expecting.

Upon checking in we were greeted by the friendly staff who showed us to our cabin and around the grounds.

The gardens are lush and beautiful. The views of the sea are breathtaking. The sundecks on the cliffs are sweet and there is a cave with a grotto and shower in there. We had fun sunning on the cliffs, snorkeling and jumping off the cliffs.

There is a little bar in the middle of the property with a live dj spinning all day. I enjoyed this feature but I can see where it might bother others looking for solitude.

The Red Rooster cabin is the largest on the property and is a little further from the sea. It has 2 floors, the 2nd floor loft has 2 beds w/ mosquito netting and a balcony with a hammock there is no a/c or tv. Downstairs has a bathroom, kitchette and little couch beds. The whole place is really clean but kinda dark at night and the main problem for us was the noise from the road and bar across the street.
I thought it would be quieter on the cliffs and we both had trouble sleeping. This was the main reason we left early, we both like our sleep.

I was also under the impression that breakfast was included in the rate, (it says it on the website). I didn't confirm that breakfast would be served, I just assumed it would be. Well you know what they say about assuming. We woke the first morning to find out that we were supposed to have put in our request for breakfast the night before, which no one told us. I didn't see any breakfast being served
to the other cabins either. So no breakfast ....(we had grocery shopped before checking in but we didn't buy breakfast items). So this is what I meant by "not what we expected", but we didn't complain or raise a big stink, we're not like that, and besides when you're in Negril, it's hard to get mad. We just figured it's not for us and we went back to where we were comfortable. Just don't go there
expecting food and quiet like we did. Their site says they have dinner available but we found that to be untrue as well. I think
I would have had a different experience if I wasn't expecting those things. In other words if you are looking for a rustic cabin where you shop and prepare your own meals or go out for food then BS is for you. Also don't expect peace and quiet, like I said during the day is the dj and at night the party across the street goes all night.

Knowing what I know now, I would go back to BS but I would stay in one of the sea front cabins. It would be fun to stay there with a big group of friends and have the whole property to ourselves.
So I would not recommend BS to families or people expecting quiet. I would recommend BS for people who like to party and stay up all night.
