“A Little Disappointed”

Couples Negril

Aug 23, 2008

First I would like to say that the staff was incredible! The Deluxe Gardenview room was beautiful, comfy, and cleaned daily. It also included a flat screened T.V and a GENEROUSLY stocked mini-bar (replenished daily), a closet that included basket drawers, an electronic room safe, guest robes, iron & ironing board, cofeemaker and teas and cofee, and four bottles of liquor.

I was disappointed because I choose my resorts based on the food (I LOVE Jamaican food!) and many reviewers rated the food very highly. Curried goat is one of my favorites, but the meat had too many bones and fat in it when we were served...both times. We were disappointed with the mac and cheese, also.

My wife LOVED the lobster dinner at Heilconia Restaurant, the cookies, and the chicken dishes. I loved the jerk burgers and jerk chicken at the grill. Breakfast was o.k. Lunch & Dinner was repetitious. Didn't have what we were looking for.

When you dine at the open air restaurants (Heliconia, Cassava Terrace), request to be seated near the ceiling fans because it's hot in August! The hosts & hostesses will gladly honor your requests.

The entertainment had wonderful singers and musicians which we really enjoyed!

The gym was incredible! Everything you need was there! Even a Gatorade machine!

As I mentioned at the beginning, the staff was wonderful. Leroy at Lychee's was very polite and kind...really made you feel special and welcomed. Also, Adrian at Otaheite was the same way. And we also must mention our beautiful waitress at Cassava Terrace...Tanya! She also made you feel at home with her kind smile and demeanor.

In conclusion, If we were satisfied with the food we would have given the resort a higher rating. Overall, we had a relaxing vacation.

Don't hesitate to book a trip here. It is absolutely romantic, beautiful, fun... anything you want it to be.

I think the best part about this hotel is that, everything is available to you when you want it... or not. You can be occupied by the entertainment (which could use some help actually), or you could be completely left alone. You could make 20 friends at the pool bar, or you could completely ignore everyone else and spend time with your significant other. It is very hidden away, there is lots of beautiful foliage, and the architecture is like an old Jamaican Plantation. We saw many hotels while we were in Negril, and would not have traded our hotel for any other. In fact, we are ready to book another trip. We heard that the other Couples resort (swept away) is very nice as well.

I will give you the best advice I can give, but please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help!

I have one complaint: There is no bottled Red Stripe. My fiance and I are big beer drinkers, and we got a little tired of tap Red Stripe after awhile. Although the mixed drinks were really good, they were really strong, a little too strong for me.

The resort does spray for bugs, and I was impressed by how few bugs I did see while I was there. Although... I can not stress it enough - wear bug spray! I got bitten a few times. But it absolutely did not ruin my trip.

Also, it is a lot more humid than we are used to here in So Cal. If I regretted anything, it was not bringing more swimsuits. Once my swimsuites got wet, they would never dry because it was so humid! So girls, I am not just giving you an excuse to go swimsuit shopping, you truly need a different suit for every day you are there.

The people are also amazing. The service is great. They really keep the resort safe for its guests. There are security guards on each end of the Couples beach, and they make sure not many people (vendors) come and hassle you.

The food is also great! However, for the high-end restaurant, I think it's called Otahite or something, you need to have LONG PANTS. Who brings long pants to the Caribbean? Just make sure you bring them if you want to eat there. We met some people who bought nicer clothes so that they could eat there, and they weren't sure it was worth it.

Oh, and don't miss the massage in the beach hut. So relaxing!

That's all I can think of for the resort itself. Don't miss Ricks Cafe. It is such a great experience with cliffs, sunset, and a live reggae band. Jimmy Buffet's was dissapointing. We did not hear one Jimmy Buffet song while we were there!

Like I said this was an amazing, relaxing trip at a great resort! I hope this was helpful and please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever. I know that candid pictures are a big help so I will attach some of those as well. Thanks and happy travels.

We stayed at Couples Negril from August 6th to the 13th and absolutely plan to return a special anniversary.

The staff were very pleasant, friendly and outgoing. They are happy and motivated to service guests. A special thanks to Stevon, Chantal, Andrew & Latoya for their excellent hospitality and customer service.

The room we stayed in is a bit outdated but the service and experiences we enjoyed more than made up for an average room.

Lots to do on the resort (water sports especially) as well as great excursions. We had an awesome time at Rick's Cafe!

We met some very friendly couples (Marc & Cindy, Shannon & Rick (Hi Paula LOL), Mike & Linda) which enhanced our experience for sure!

The food is the best we enjoyed in any of our all inclusive travels and the ambiance was A+.

The golf course (Negril Hills) was a bit of a dissapointment and didn't meet my expectations.

A sincere thanks for a great week. We recommend anyone to stay at Couples Negril!

I am a Guest Services Manager at a 4 diamond hotel in Nova Scotia so I always enjoy complimenting great service!

Sincerely,

Darren & Roxanne Martell, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

“Very Disappointed!!!”

Couples Negril

Aug 13, 2008

My husband and I are currently staying at Couples Negril for a week long vacation. We paid $2,600 for five nights (including airfare). We expected to find a 4 star hotel with exemplary service. We have received subpar service in all areas of the hotel. To make matters worse, the bar at the Heliconda is unsanitary. Today, as my husband and I sat down at the bar to have drinks, I noticed that the barender took dirty cups used by other patrons, dunked them into soapy water, rinsed them off with water, and put them back onto the counter. The bartender then used one of those same rinsed cups to give the gentleman next to us a drink. The cups were not even washed before being given to the new customer!!! Our room looks like a 5th grade camping cabin. The bathrooms are dingy, moldy, and unkempt. The shower has vents that open to the great outdoors. The sleeping quarters include a room of standard size (think Holiday Inn); however, the bed is only two feet off of the floor and feels like a cot rather than a luxurious mattress. Housekeeping leaves much to be desired. The hotel promised that we would receive a cleaning during the day and a turn down service at night. On our first day, housekeeping did not turn our beds. On the second day, housekeeping arrived at 3:30 p.m. for its first cleaning of our room and did not come back that evening for the turn down service. We contacted the front desk and asked if we could receive an earlier cleaning of our room and they graciously put us on a list where we would receive cleaning service earlier in the day. However, we have had to continuously ask for additional washcloths and towels.

The two positives in favor of the hotel are the food and the included water activities. The food is wonderful and my husband was able to go scuba diving as a part of the included water activities. I normally review the complaints posted on trip advisor and take them with a grain of salt.. However, by our third day, both my husband and I are ready to go home. We are sorely disappointed and would like a refund of our money and vacation days from work!
