Wow, I just got back from a week stay at Bluebay with my sister and friend (a girlfriend get-a-way) and we had such a blast at Bluebay. I've been to various places in the Caribbean throughout the years, and this is somewhere I DEFINATELY plan on returning to!
Service: Service everywhere was excellent and none of us have any complaints. The front desk is very accomodating and I've never experienced service in the restuarants so quickly and with such kindness.
Food: Food was excellent... The best a-la-carte was El Dorada. I ate the best steak I have ever had there... Mmmmmmmmmm. The buffet was excellent as well. Let's just say we all put on a couple pounds and it wasn't just from drinking!!
Rooms: Clean and comfy... Air conditioning wasn't too low or too high. Beds were just fine... In some reviews there are complaints that they are a little hard but, we found them just right! We had two chairs in our room but wasted no time in there sitting on them.... We posed on them once for a picture!
Pools: Swim up bar was our fav!!! There are tons of lounge chairs around the pools to relax on and even some day beds to nap on!!! Pools are kept very clean :)
Beach: The beach there is very nice... On some days it was a little windy and there was lots of sand blowing up at us but these are the days we decided to relax by the pools. When it wasn't so windy, the beach and water were beautiful. They really work hard at keeping the beach clean. There are many huts and lounge chairs and even some days beds to relax on at the beach. Also, there is a beach bar that also has 24 hour snacks/drinks.
Entertainment: WOW, amazing entertainment!! On all my other Caribbean vacations I kinda got sick of watching ladies dance gracefully on stage!! Here, there is tons of variety and lots of audience participation. Most entertainment was put on by the animation team and they are all a bunch of funny guys... not to mention the GREAT dance lessons we had prior to each show!! At 29, I think I have finally learned how to dance!! lol Some entertainment is brought in from elsewhere (Michael Jackson Show, Circus and Magic Show) and they are great too!
Activities: Lots of activities to involve yourself in by the pool and on the beach.... We tried to involve ourselves as much as possible and had a blast doing it. We even won some certificates to take home in the process. Some of the daily activities include: sushi making lessons, dance lessons, cocktail making lessons, spanish lessons, volleyball, pool aerobics, boccia, horseshoes, bowling, bike tour, etc..... Get involved.. you'll have lots of fun doing it cause the entertainment team make it fun with their awesome humour!
Party: Being that there wasn't a disco at this resort, we made sure to do our research to see where we could go and dance once the nightly show was over. The BEST place to party is COCO BONGOS by far!!! It's free admission and we learned a little trick half way through our vacation - go to the beach bar and load up on drinks before you head over and even bring one, or two, or three for the road. We were never stopped with drinks in hand while walking into Coco Bongos!!! Coco Bongos is a 3 min walk. Walking out from the front lobby, turn right and walk until you see a plaza on your right and it is in that plaza. There is also a bar called Hemmingways at that plaza. We went there one night and found ourselves at Coco Bongos within an hour!
Shopping: The Plaza down the street has lots of shopping and you can also find things such as sunscreen, cigs, pop, liquor, clothes there. It is very over priced though but unless you head to some remote area (non-tourist area) you are gonna pay anyways so we just bought our souvineers there. We also bought some jewlery from the beach. There are tons of people walking around the beach trying to sell stuff and they do not hassle you when you so "No, not interested" and look away. Don't forget to wheel and deal as we became pros at this by the end of the week and it works - even scored myself a free ring from the jewlery guy at the beach!!
Excursions: Excursions were pretty good. We bought ours from the beach (you can negotiate the price here as well) and it was much cheaper than buying in the resort. The excursions you buy in the resort, from what we hear, are a little more upscale though. For example, our bus ride to the place where we caught the boat to Paradise Island, was horrible! On the other hand, Paradise Island was very beautiful and almost worth it. Jeep Tours seem to be the most popular. We booked a Jeep Tour and it was very fun and cultural. The Jeep Tour we booked (on the beach) took us to the 7 Falls and that was a once-in-a-life-time experience. Definately a crazy experience for someone like me who is afraid of heights but I'm glad I did it!
Overall: At BlueBay there was such a mix of wonderful people on vacation. From couples (young and old) to groups (big and small) and from all around the world (but, primarily Canada, US and Britain) This dynamic made for a great time and lots of inter-mingeling. Between the friendly staff, AWESOME animation team and fun guests I can say that almost all of you will have a blast here.
Just remember that there are always people out there who like to complain and have expectations that exceed what's possible. Any reasonable person who is not expecting an all-inclusive experience of that of a movie star, will leave Blubay with a smile!! The price is VERY Reasonable for what you get!
A GREAT BIG HELLO from LIZ, LISA and YVETTE to the phenomenal animation team at Bluebay: Marchello, Super Tino, Roberto, James Bond, DJ Rock, Lorenzo, Tony Montana, and last but, DEFINATELY NOT LEAST.... PINEAPPLE!!!
