This is the second time i've stopped here on business(so not out of choice)
I was in room 414 which doesn't have wood lice and split wood panels from rot unlike the last time. But if I wanted a shower I got a bath too and if I wanted a bath- yeah, you got it I got a shower!
Water was cool or cold unless you ran it at some silly hour(5am) or on a sunday- The hotel was jam packed and the water heater could not cope with demand come 8am or 5:30-9:00 pm.
None of the staff speak any english- even the reception staff avoid serving english speaking customers in preference of locals or spanish speaking as they seem to get embarressed or just dont like it. My delegation travel the world and to 3 other locations in DR and do not encounter such language problems. 35 minutes to pay my $13 room bill whilst others came and went paid difficult amounts with credit cards/vouchers/cash/foreign currency- however myself paying $13 dollars not wanting any change took 35 minutes!!
Avoid this hotel at all costs- Use the renaisance down the road. Popped in thinking it still had a lively bar(which is now a casino) and the hotel staff sat all 5 of us down found out what we were looking for and sent us to the best club i've ever been in.
Don't get me wrong, I am not one of these people who expect someone to speak MY language where ever I go, but these people don't make any effort, forget that they understood that same word 2 days prior- but when they are being "awkward" do not understand you all of a sudden!
top tip:-
Go to Praia- a club about 25 minutes from the intercontinental quite pricey- enterence about £5-8 drinks comparable to "london" prices - so OK but a bit unexpected being in the caribbean. Best club ever!
