The hotel itself was very nice looking, although the decor did not fit in with a beach vacation. It was clean and when the staff was approached with questions, they were very helpful and professional. I wasn't thrilled with the thought of a high rise hotel, but the elevators came quickly, there was little waiting.
In general, communication was awful. We were never told that there would be a daily activity sheet or where to find them until I asked. The digital displays that would be perfect to communicate activities we used for corporate events. There was no postings for "happy hour" times or locations. We did find happy hour at the beach bar, but it was only from 5-6pm. Most of the other hotels had happy hour from 4-6, 4-7 etc. Not that I'm a big happy hour person, but that is important to some people. It wasn't posted if there was any entertainment in the hotel. On thing that really bothered me is that this is billed as a totally non-smoking hotel. However, smoking is permitted in the casino which is part of the hotel and the ventilation system was not very good. When dining at the other hotels in the area they added a 15% gratutity charge onto the bill, Westin added 17% and expected a tip on top of that. Food in the hotel was pricey. For 2 bagels, orange juice and coffee my bill came to $24. Other hotel restaurants had much better prices. In the shop downstairs, it was $5 for a 2 ltr bottle of soda. I don't travel all that frequently, so perhaps that is not unusual, but it surprised me!
I did not have children with me, but the activities sheet had many of the same activities on it from day to day. My children would be bored with that.
The Westin is the first one on Palm beach, so you have to walk to the "strip" with all the shops and restaurants. Being my first trip, I didn't know this. I also had to find out myself that beach huts needed to be reserved how to do that. This would have been helpful info upon check-in.
So the bottom line is that the Westin is a nice hotel that caters mainly to it's business customers. If the above things are not important to you, it's a good place to stay. It was not my idea of a resort.
