The hotel itself was very nice looking, although the decor did not fit in with a beach vacation. It was clean and when the staff was approached with questions, they were very helpful and professional. I wasn't thrilled with the thought of a high rise hotel, but the elevators came quickly, there was little waiting.

In general, communication was awful. We were never told that there would be a daily activity sheet or where to find them until I asked. The digital displays that would be perfect to communicate activities we used for corporate events. There was no postings for "happy hour" times or locations. We did find happy hour at the beach bar, but it was only from 5-6pm. Most of the other hotels had happy hour from 4-6, 4-7 etc. Not that I'm a big happy hour person, but that is important to some people. It wasn't posted if there was any entertainment in the hotel. On thing that really bothered me is that this is billed as a totally non-smoking hotel. However, smoking is permitted in the casino which is part of the hotel and the ventilation system was not very good. When dining at the other hotels in the area they added a 15% gratutity charge onto the bill, Westin added 17% and expected a tip on top of that. Food in the hotel was pricey. For 2 bagels, orange juice and coffee my bill came to $24. Other hotel restaurants had much better prices. In the shop downstairs, it was $5 for a 2 ltr bottle of soda. I don't travel all that frequently, so perhaps that is not unusual, but it surprised me!

I did not have children with me, but the activities sheet had many of the same activities on it from day to day. My children would be bored with that.

The Westin is the first one on Palm beach, so you have to walk to the "strip" with all the shops and restaurants. Being my first trip, I didn't know this. I also had to find out myself that beach huts needed to be reserved how to do that. This would have been helpful info upon check-in.

So the bottom line is that the Westin is a nice hotel that caters mainly to it's business customers. If the above things are not important to you, it's a good place to stay. It was not my idea of a resort.

“Westin was fabulous”

We recently returned from a six day stay at the Westin. This was our seventh stay in Aruba; last year we stayed at the Hyatt. The Westin has been nicely remodeled. The rooms are very comfortable, and the beds are as good as advertised. The rooms were also very quiet at night.

The staff at the Westin seems dedicated to making everyone's stay as perfect as possible. From the moment you walk in the front door, everyone is attentive and helpful. Registrations was quick and painless. The service in the restaurants was uniformly excellent, by any standards. The restaurants themselves were fabulous. The food is expensive, but well prepared and served. We took the all-inclusive plan, which was not cheap, but if you drink, it's good value.

The beach and the water are as beautiful as you expect from Aruba.

My husband and I are experienced travellers. We had absolutely no complaints and would stay at the Westin again.

We LOVED our stay at the Westin Aruba. We went there for a week in March 2008, and it was an absolutely fantastic hotel. We booked on priceline and got a great rate - around $120 a night. We actually had planned to stay at the hotel for half our trip and with a friend the other half, but ended up extending our stay at the hotel for the entire trip because it was so nice. The friend we were supposed to stay with ended up staying at the hotel with us instead!

The lobby and other facilities are all beautiful. Everything has high ceilings and is very light, open, and modern. The room was extremely large and comfortable. The heavenly bed is honestly one of the nicest beds of any hotel I've ever stayed at! So clean and comfortable, and very large. The restaurants and store in the hotel were a little pricey, but there was a lot of selection. The hotel is also in walking distance from many other hotels and restaurants of all price ranges, so we were able to leave the hotel and check out a lot of different places while we were there. The pool was clean and had plenty of chairs in both the sun and shade. There were little geckos and iguanas running around the pool all the time, which was a lot of fun. We stayed at the pool, but the beach also seemed very nice.

Skip the cabaret - it was like bad dinner theater and definitely not worth $60 a ticket.

We stayed at the Westin Aruba for 7 nights in August. We were upgraded to a junior suite with a nice view of the pool and ocean. The service was nothing less than EXCELLENT and PERSONAL. It made the difference between having a good vacation and a great one. At 6:30 am, the waitstaff at the Terrace would see me coming and have my coffee ready! The young woman at the towel hut gave me a hug when I told her we were leaving as if I were an old friend.

My only criticism is that the "no smoking" rule was not enforced.
On some evenings, smokers would be puffing away in the seating area near the casino (not inside it). I think if you advertise yourself as a smoke-free hotel, then you should enforce it. There was even one gentlemen who had his lit cigar in the elevator.

Banana fritters w/ ice cream dessert at Blossoms was to die for! I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. The beds are heavenly!

“The Honeymoon that wasn't-Pool Construction at the Westin Aruba”

My fiancee and I booked our honeymoon trip to the Westin Aruba back in March. At that time, I had read some reviews here that the hotel was undergoing construction, and causing disturbances for the guest. When we booked, I asked the travel agent at AAA to confirm that there would be no construction during our stay (Sept 15-22). That information was confirmed for me. Wanting to cover all my bases, I contacted the Westin Aruba myself as well. I received an email from Vanessa Rasmussen, the guest services manager of the Westin Aruba, stating that there was no construction taking place and none schedule for the future either. I also specifically included my stay time, so there would be no misunderstandings. Well, on Aug 22nd, the Westin Aruba issued a press release stating that from Sept 8-Oct 15, the pool area would be closed enhancement and refinishing of the pool and the landscape surrounding the outdoor facilites. Interesting that they wait until it's impossible for guests to change travel plans before announcing this construction. When I contacted our travel agent, and the Westin, all said there was nothing they could do for us. Luckily we purchased insurance, so we can get a full refund, but at this point, I believe the Westin gets to keep their money an we aer reimbursed via the insurance company. No construction project of this magnitude would have been thrown together only 2 weeks ahead of time, this had to have been planned for months now. The Westin deliberately did not announce this sooner, and to top it off, they are offering no compensation whatsoever for the inconveinence. So a big thank you to the Westin Aruba, for ruining my honeymoon, and a warning to anyone who booked a stay in Sept or Oct of this year.

Management Response

The Westin Resort, Aruba appreciates all feedback we receive whether it is for a job well done or for opportunities to improve how we deliver memorable vacation experiences. For this particular review, there are a few areas that I would like to respond to in order to help clarify some of the issues mentioned. First, we realize the inconvenience that a pool renovation can cause and do apologize for this. We took great care in planning for the time our pool was being renovated. The press release announcing our renovation came out on August 14th not on the 22nd as stated. We announced the renovation as soon as we were made aware of the exact dates and we had alternate plans available for our guests. The alternate arrangements are for use of the pool at The Mill resort across the street from the hotel. We also have all other areas of our resort fully operational during this time. The comment that we deliberately did not announce it sooner is simply incorrect. Second, I personally received an email from this customer regarding this situation and in fact, compensation was offered so the comment that no compensation was offered was also incorrect. We do understand the customer's frustration and are doing everything possible to make sure those guests who are staying with us have a great vacation. I have received many emails from guests who have questions and many of them have decided to stay with us to enjoy their time in Aruba. Thank you.
