It's hard to think of a more convenient hotel in Cherbourg for a night's stopover: a five-minute drive from the ferries and plenty of free parking. But it's a hotel of two halves. Book a standard room and you get a small, dark room facing a brick wall with a double bed and a pokey shower. Spend a few euros... more

Having stayed at a Mercure in Carcassonne I booked this hotel on the strength of that experience. When we arrived I was disappointed about the appearance as somehow I had images of a pretty harbour with hotels and restaurants all around it a bit like St Malo (wrong town!). However, having said that it was perfectly adequate for us. The... more

Arrived on the night ferry on a very wet day, so drenched by 7am . . . . . .. ! thought we'd hang around the hotel bar to keep warm until we could check in (supposedly at 2pm) and the receptionist took pity . . . made a couple of phone calls and we were able to check it... more

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions as it is close to the ferry terminal. It's ok but a bit basic. Just too far from the city centre to walk, so a taxi is required. It's the kind of place you would stay if on business or as in my case while waiting for the ferry.... more

We chose the Mercure because it was well-located for the ferry and not far from the Cherbourg train station and for the fact it has a restaurant. We were very pleased with our stay. The property is a bit dated but was clean and comfortable. Our room had a lovely view of the harbor and received the evening sun. As... more

Passable for business travellers. Comments by others accurate, in my mind. No air conditioning in summer. Although scorching temperatures are pretty rare in Cherbourg, if it is a rare heat wave, you will suffer Warm in winter. Rooms typical for French mid range hotels, but a little worn for the Mercure chain. Plenty of hot water. Breakfast tasty, but as... more

Taking advantage of a bargain offer on Brittany Ferries (and in need of wine supplies) we chose the Mercure because of its position. Arriving late evening, it was perfect and we were at the hotel minutes after leaving the port. Next morning it only took 5 minutes to Majestic Wine where our preordered cases of wine were ready for us.... more

Having booked through Brittany Ferries, I was disheartened when I read comments about the hotel being dilapidated and not three star. Neither statement, in my view, was correct. Our room was clean, well mantained, and very comfortable. In general the standard of the hotel was well up to any three star I have stayed in before. My only criticism is... more

We booked this hotel for its supposed proximity to the International ferry terminal. However, it is definitely NOT walkable with luggage as our tortuous trek in heat verified. The hotel is in need of a a face lift although the public rooms, particularly the dining room facing the bay, were pleasant. Our room was miniscule and fortunately we were so... more

The hotel's description is wrong. It is NOT at the ferry terminal and only one side of the hotel faces the sea and yacht marina. From the outide the building looks dreadful - really off putting - appears as if there has been no maintenance for far too many years and first impressions are not improved by the number of... more
