My girlfriend and i stayed for a romatic weekend. The welcome was fantastic and staff good. The room in the annex was good overall ,very clean and well stocked. The corridor was noisy though with lots of traffic around breakfast etc. Please avoid the bar .We paid £14 for two single gin and tonics! The mini bar is also expensive but there is... more

It is marketed as a country house hotel. It is actually an upmarket Travelodge. The new wing at the back is awful, with views over the car park. The furnishings are a bit tired. The whole experience is like staying in a motorway motel with a grand reception tacked onto the front. The only thing saving the hotel is the... more

Well we love to stay in a Macdonald hotel. We know the standard and always enjoy the breakfasts. The staff commented that everyone recommends their breakfasts. The smoked haddock is particularly good. This hotel is not luxurious but is very comfortable and we haven't one complaint. The staff were wonderfully pleasant and polite as good as anywhere I've stayed in... more

The pillows were lumpy and old and the blankets scratchy. No duvets here just sheets and blankets army-style tucked in. drab and tired and dingey rooms. Worst of all was the pool! It was cold and chlorine heavy. The whole place could use an overhaul. Staff nice - all Eastern European and pleasant - and a good breakfast. more

We stayed at the hotel fro two nights for the Global Gathering Festival at Long Marston Airfield. The hotel is situated in a good location within a few minutes walk from the town centre. We had a room in the newer part of the hotel and found it to be very clean and the bed was very comfy. The hotel... more

Stayed here for 1 night, and had a very pleasant time. The old part of the building is pretty, proving a period setting for the reception and lounge/bar. It also hides a sprawling hotel building build cica 1980 where your room is located. The decor is quite neutral and "period" - it feels like a chain hotel (which is what... more

The old part of the hotel is very nice and full of character, and from some of the reviews below it sounds like rooms in this part are nice. However I stayed in one of the modern extensions (the hotel is surprisingly large when you take these into account) which was really not that great. Good: reception staff were helpful,... more

The Alveston Manor building (old part- reception etc) is very impressive and the grounds are beautiful. The standard rooms in the new wing are slightly indentikit but in my opinion far superior to many "conference/wedding" type hotels of this category, very well appointed and comfortable. The service was also excellent- overall this hotel represents excellent value in its category and... more

Good: Comfortable old room, friendly staff, helpful staff, excellent gym & pool, nice breakfast, good location in the town. Bad: Wireless signal in room inadequate, had to go to bar for emails, Bar staff's English was so bad they got all drinks orders wrong; poor air conditioning in gym. Double room not big enough for 2 people (in old part... more

Have stayed here twice, once in the old part of the building and once in the new. The room in the old building was spacious and had character; the room in the new block was modern but we could have been in any hotel chain in any town or city. It was uninspiring and lacked atmosphere. The staff are attentive... more
