We spent a long time driving up narrow, windy roads. However, once we arrived, the view was worth it. more

Waimea Canyon is amazing to put it simply. I wouldn't recommend the drive from Kekaha (Kokee Rd. Highway 552) as it seems really long, is very winding and not nearly as scenic as the Waimea Canyon Drive (Highway 550) from Waimea. The first overlook is wonderful. We were there midday and the lighting was great. I can only imagine how... more

My wife and I stopped at the lookout during our day trip to Kauai. We had flown over from Oahu and rented a car for the day to check things out, and get away from all the hustle of Waikiki. Now that we have been there, we cannot wait to go back. It was a bit hazy during our visit... more

It's definitely worth the drive. Go in the morning before the warm air from the ocean rises and meets with the cool air and forms fog. It was foggy at the top and the 1 mile hile wasn't worth it. We drove down a little way to the Awa'awapuhi Trail, which is a 6.2 mile hike round trip. The hike... more

The first time we drove up to Waimea Canyon, with the intention of going all the way to the top in Kokee State Park to the Puu O Hila Lookout and a hike on the Pihea Trail, the clouds had rolled in making the hike impossible; the clouds covered the entire view at the top (though not of the Waimea... more

We drove to the top of the canyon, stopped at the lodge for lunch on the way (funny little place, but good tuna sandwiches). Amazing views. Look out for car sickness on the way down, my husband decided he was a race car driver. more

Wow, what a view. It was quite a drive from where we were, but well worth the trip out. It may actually photograph better than the Grand Canyon, as the greens and other colors make it spectacular. Just hold onto your hat, it's windy up there! It's a long drive with nothing around there, so bring something to eat and... more

We recently returned from a trip to the islands and Kauai was amazing. Waimea Canyon was the highlight of the trip for me! So beautiful and peaceful. Honestly, it's so amazing that pictures cannot accurately describe what you will see!! Breathtaking - I cannot wait to go back and spend some time there - maybe hiking through. more

We went to Kauai in early January 2008. It rained quite a bit while we were on our way to the canyon, but the sun came out just in time. Lots of waterfalls and rainbows. The canyon is stunning. Takes at least half a day in a car and more if you're getting out of the car and wandering around... more
