We didnt realize that a great tour awaited us in the Gaol. Take the tour (I think its 5 Euro?) for about 45-60-minutes and learn more about Irish history than you will walking the city and poking your head in museums. See the jail cells where the Revolutionaries spent their last days. Finish out going to the site of the... more

Very popular tourist spot......we went on a Sunday and the bus service was a bit tricky, although we've learned that if you tell the driver in advance where you need to stop, he'll call out when you arrive. There are already tons of great pictures and reviews of the Gaol, but I will echo the fact that it is one... more

This tour lasts about an hour and was filled with quite a bit of good information, although quite a bit of time was dedicated to the 1916 rebellion. One of the major restrictions is that you can only view the jail (Gaol) by tour guide. At every stop you do get a chance to look around, but not near as... more

The jail is definitely worth a visit and is reasonably priced. This is one of the stops on the hop on / hop off buses so there's no problem in getting there and leaving again. The tour is guided and lasts approximately one hour. The lady who took our tour was really nice and knew her stuff. The tour takes... more

Excellent tour. The historical significance of this prison will inflict it's own impression as you walk the halls and into the tiny cells that housed some of Ireland's most notoriously loathed, and some of it's most beloved. The tour guide was overbearing but the site itself deserves praise. more

This place was so full of Irish history, bravery, suffering, and heart - it was hard to talk after leaving. Very impactful. We took the hop on/hop off bus to Kilmainham, spent quite awhile at the jail, then grabbed the bus to go around town. more

The easiest way to get to Kilmainham Gaol is by bus. If you want to use public transport Dublin bus is the way to go. You can get the 79, 68, or 69, they cost 1.50 and drop you right outside the door the bus drivers will let you know when to get off if you let them know while... more

Actually, I'd probably appreciate being locked up for a week so I could explore this place in full! The hour long (excellent) guided tour didn't show nearly as many aspects as I would've preferred - though most people would probably have found it comprehensive... The visit consists of four parts: Queueing, museum, guided tour and museum, coz there's no way... more

The tour was very informative and interesting, but we were the last group of the day, and many of us felt like we were being rushed out. So, I do recommend it, but go early rather than late. Enjoy! more

A friend from Boston, MA suggested we visit Kilmainham Gaol while in Dublin & I am glad we listened to her. The jail was quite a distance from the city center...we took the Luas red line tram from Lower Abbey Street to the St. James stop then walked the rest of the way there. You can also take the #23,... more
