The gardens and hothouses are excellent. We spent about five hours there and didn't see everything. There is long-stay meter-parking near the North gate, but this is free at weekends. This is a lovely place to visit, with a range of impressively-kept gardens and wooded or grassy areas to suit all. The Royal Botanic Gardens is one of my favourite places to go in edinburgh. It's surrounded by impossibly posh looking houses which I like to gawk at on the way in, it has a wonderful cafe where you can buy Ice cream on a hot day and for cold days it has hot houses, which are also great for kids.... more
It only costs 80p to get to by bus from princes street and is only a few minuites away. Free to get it that makes it great for the budget traverler, but if you can afford to pay to go into the Glass houses there very well kept and have some amazing plants like a purple pineapple.
