We live in Toronto, and visited the Bata Shoe Museum for the first time last weekend, with a tot in tow. The tickets cost CDN 12 apiece. The Museum is very informative with many shoes from various parts of the world, and also spanning the ages. However, it is dark (probably because they want the spotlight on shoes). Our toddler... more

Visited this museum on 17th October 08 and had never thought that shoes could be a topic interesting enough for an entire museum. Worth a visit to see the efforts made to collect a few of the most unique footwear from all around the world. Amongst others, I was most impressed by the silver / gilt wedding padukas and Mojaris... more

While you might be thinking to yourself, "A Shoe Museum? What could they possibly show there?", this will hopefully be an eye opener. The museum has a very thorough history of shoes with excellent examples and information along the way. You could spend quite awhile in this portion of the museum as it is quite rich in history. Other exhibits... more

I really had not planned on visiting this museum, but I saw an advertisement for a special exhibit of ballet shoes that hooked me in. In addition to a permanent exhibit on the history of shoes, they have several temporary exhibits. When I visited -- May 2008 -- in addition to the ballet shoes, there was an exibit of Native... more

The best part of this museum was the diversity of shoes on display - from antiquity to the modern day runner it was all there. If anything, it was certainly a memorable experience - just tell anyone that you went to a shoe museum and see the look on their face :) more

They had a size 20EEE Shaq shoe on display. Display of shoes thru the ages, from straw woven and tied to the feet to fancy-fancy stuff worn in Europe during the 17th/18th century. Asian, European, African... it was really interesting. more

A shoe museum??? Sound sort of strange?? I admit it - we were not sure about going to this museum - but had a great time and it was very interesting and informative. Covers the history of shoes, has an outstanding collection and we saw an interesting special exhibit of Chinese children's clothing and shoes. This is a one of... more

The Bata Shoe Museum has literally thousands of pairs of shoes, spanning the ages, from pre-historic times (although most of these are replicas) through to the future (a boot from the NASA training camp is there). Exhibits change frequently, so I can only speak of my visit, to say that Rococco and Asian history was very well represented. Celebrity shoes... more

My husband and I visited the museum in early June. It was almost empty and we sailed through the exhibits in little more than an hour. We did our tour quickly because of other engagements but felt we missed out. For those of you who love costumes or are anthropology buffs, plan on spending more time to read the fascinating... more

I don't even consider myself a huge shoe person, but I found this museum to be quite interesting, entertaining and well thought out. You can do the entire museum in about 1 1/2 hours (and that's going rather slow). The building is bright and airy with a stunning central staircase. Overall, a great diversion! more
